I'm having my oil boiler serviced on Monday for £35 (plus VAT). The details are as follows:

Got my boiler serviced on Friday by the guy Blondie recommended on this post......£35 no vat or anything....just ordered full tank of oil few weeks ago hopefully thats me sorted as my boiler broke down last January in the freezing weather.

Just my opinion - but the monthly cover you can buy from British Gas is a total waste of money. Not had my boiler serviced for over 5 years and still going strong - if I'd had cover it would have cost over £900.

I don't doubt it is still going strong, but is it as efficient as it should be? I very much doubt it. You are risking a major breakdown, so on your own head be it. You should have your boiler serviced once a year and at £35 it is not expensive.

Well done for taking the gamble especially your £900 you appear to have saved.
I'm a bit surprised that you don't seem to want a basic yearly service.Hopefully changes can be made to force householders like yourselves to have these done.
Whilst we are advised to use Corgi registered engineers(always check that they still are) and landlords have to also show that they have the right current certificates,householders like you are being irresponible.

Let's hope for next doors sake that your house insurance covers you and any adjoining properties if there was an explosion caused by your ways.That's if you have house insurance so it could be worth checking the small print under
'negligance'.

Let's hope your bills are running correctly with an unserviced boiler and that if you do get a breakdown causing a major repair you have about £1500+ handy
Hopefully your engineer,if you can get one,isn't a rogue trader.

Thanks for the recommendation. Just had Wilson out. Very reliable, cheap (now 50 quid for a service - the post is 3 years old) knowledgable & a real nice guy.

Would highly recommend him.

Anyone had any recent joy around Belfast/Lisburn, or is Wilson Houston still the boy to call?
