Boiler Servicing

Hi all,
With the spiralling cost of heating oil, I thought it would be wise to have the boiler serviced (not touched for 6 years). Can anyone tell me how much you'd expect to pay, and also any recommendations for plumbers/boiler maintenance engineers in the Strangford area?
Regards Paul.

    Hi Paul
No idea about the Strangford area but I think the last time I got my boiler serviced it was about £60 (can not remember though if that was before or after vat).

We're getting ours serviced next Wednesday (by a wee man from Carryduff I think) - if you can hang on that long I'll let you know how much it cost, and give you his contact details.

I recently signed up for the British Gas cover which is £15 a month I think. they send out somebody for an initial service/inspection and then if you have any problems within the next 12 months your parts, labour etc are covered within the monthly figure.

    Gives you another option

What ? £60 ?? I got mine done a few weeks ago by a place in Belfast (they are in the yellow pages )for £35....was recommended by a friend of mine. She's been using them for years. I e-mailed their website and they rang me back. I have the number somwhere......Its 02890 732571
apparently it makes your heating run more smoothly (we'd need something with the price of the oil, i hate the thoughts of re-ordering......) Brrrrr !!!!!

Wilson Houston was the name of the guy who serviced ours (£40) - unfortunately I've left his number at home, but I'll post it later.

He's one of those guys who has obviously been doing the job for years and knows what he's talking about.

    EDIT: Wilson Houston, Re-Heat Boiler Services - 90814177 or 07801 750202

We got ours serviced on Thursday of last week cost £35 and doesn't need done for another 2 years!! It will depend on what state your burner is in and obviously who you get to do it.

The man who serviced ours has been doing it for years and told us that the next time it would need a plate which would cost £5. I have 2 years to save the £35 for servicing and £5 for the plate. lol!! It has been £35 since we started getting it serviced in 1997 as burner was only got in 1996 I think! Pity the price of oil didn't stay the same since 1997, I can dream.

    HTH!
  • Thanks for all the replies.
In the end, I used AK Plumbing & Heating in Ballygowan, charged £50 (sounds reasonable given that the boiler hadn't been touched in 6 years).
Now to try and pay for 900 litres of heating oil ....
  • I got mine done 6 months ago and it cost £35. The guy came from Lisburn to Bangor. The guy was a real sound bloke ans was well enthusiatic about boilers. Can email you his contact details if you want.

Does anyone know if it costs more to get a gas boiler serviced and can anyone recommend someone to do it?
