Private payment of Car Insurance claim

I am seeking some advice regarding an agreement to pay privately for a minor damage I caused to someoneelses car. The other party put their claim through their insurance and I wanted to pay the bill privately i.e. not use my insurance company. I have recieved a bill, which includes paying for a hire car, for over £600. A similar damage repair on another car cost £150. What should I do? I feel there is some form of over charging in this case

If you don't want to pay the claim, then pass it to your insurers to deal with.

If you feel there is over charging then you need to explain what specifically you feel is inflated. If they actually claimed through their own insurer the figures are likely to be correct.

Are the hire charges for a car of similar make and model? Are the labour and parts costs within what was expected?

See http://www.abi.org.uk/TPHire/ (specifically http://www.abi.org.uk/TPHire/SupportingDocuments/Agreed_car_rates_53_12_12_07.doc ) for info on the usual hire rates.

If the car is being fixed in a garage then the scale of the repairs doesn't matter.
Presumably the owner cannot get to work if it's in the garage all day.

Now that other driver has notified his insurer, I would suggest that you send the claim to your own insurers.

You are obliged to report all accidents whether or not you intend making a claim. If it comes to light that you did not declare you could end up in deep dodo.
