Discrepancies in number of digits of account number

I want to transfer funds to my nationwide flexaccount using CHAPS. However it appears that the account number on my flexaccount has one extra digit making it 9, when i should be expecting 8 digits. Which of the 8 digits does it wants?
Does anyone in the know have any ideas?
Also, can anyone tell me how safe it is to transfer using this CHAPS system. Does it also check the recipient's name & address as well for extra security. This will be my first time transferring such a substantial amount, I would like to get it right first time and hope that the funds doesn't disappear into a black hole.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
Mine only has 8. Have you taken a look at how it is shown on your cheque book?0

CHAPS is the safest method of transfer there is. However, it is still your responsbility to get the sort code and account number right for the receiving account.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Nationwide help files indicate some account numbers are prefixed 6. They say in this case you should drop the leading "6".
However, as the sum sounds like it's significant, I'd recommend contacting them for the correct sort code/account number combination.0 -

No - it doesn't.
Hence the need, as previous posts, to qualify exactly what is required to accurately target the Account number. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
