Options
Hi All

Moving house in 6 weeks it's just about complete as the guy that was selling it gutted it and started from skratch but he moved abroad anyway !

We need to fit Gas central heating into the property we are looking at a combi boiler and about 5 radiators, does anyone have a ball park figure or any give me a guest about the cost, i've not got anyone in yet to cost up i was just wondering, See i have money from the sale of our home but need to work out how much to keep back for the heating.

Thanks in advance

Pat

I have just had a central heating updated with 3 replacement rads using existing pipe work as well as 4 new ones up stairs will all new pipe work. A condensing combi boiler replaced a back bolier.

Grand total £4100 took 3 and half days.

Could you not have it fitted before you move anything in. As it will make it so much easier for the person concerned.

The person who did ours said he was spoilt with us as we don't have much up stairs apart from a bed and a computer. and we made room for him to work down stairs. He did say that they normally allow about a day and half just for moving furniture.

Hi, we paid 2.5K for a new boiler, all pipework and 7 radiators. Our house had just been gutted so was almost empty and it took him a day and a half to do it.
Just run, run and keep on running!

I know I would not mine being paid that.

I have no idea about the costs of the parts apart from the boiler was about £1K.

But when central heating plumbers are being paid about approx £30K-£35k a year round here. What can you do. Oh and that was a mid range quote. I had one £3.6K a little one man band who wanted to take 6 days. And another one quoted £4.5k. So none of them where really cheap and I never bothered getting a quote from british gas. The guy fitting mine said that BG would have charged in the region of £8K to do the same work.

I suppose to save money we (meaning husband) could have bought the rads are ourselves and done the pipe work up stairs and replace the rads down stairs. And then got them in to just remove back boiler flush, the system and comission the boiler. But we did not want to that. At least if we get a problem we can have some sort of comeback. And also my husband would not have a clue where to start, me neither for that matter.

And they do have to make some sort of profit as well. And if it went wrong then it was not a case of my marriage being on the line. As I am sure if my husband had touched the job and cocked it up. I could see the big D word coming. As In would have hit the roof :rotfl:

So to keep my marriage safe I personally think it was a bargain ;)
