I am a little fed up with the profanity filter on MSE. Firstly it lets me get up people's noses and pick things, like I can really get into their knickers, but when I mention my cat in real terms, it goes into overdrive. Pu55Y comes out as !!!!!!
Now if I were not from Fish Town, Grimsby, I coluld mention we all know who put the tea in Britain, but not S!!!!horpe.
Thank God my name is not Callahan!

Another bizarre one I first came across on another forum was typing snigger. Seems to work now on this forum (not sure if it always had) but on some forums it came out as "sblack person". So I guess the filter here isn't too bad compared to some, at least it doesn't think some forms of laughter are racist!"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

It could be worse. A while back, anyone from Clitheroe using AOL found mention of their town was flagged as bad language.0

Another one is say I wanted to say "it was a painful !!!!! of the pin". (I typed pr!ck)"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Hehe
This board isn't too bad for profanities, on another forum I visited once, if you typed a swear word, it automatically changed it to a pre-set word, which made your whole post look daft.
Examples: (Sorry for blanked swears here people)
S*** - appeared as 'hot chocolate.
The 'C' word showed up as 'entertainment centre'
@*** - fundamental orifice
Pu55y - Little furry cat
You can imagine the posts were hard to read :rotfl:
I don't see the need for people to swear on a forum, but I can understand it being annoying when you're just typing a normal word.

Then when you're at uni and people ask where you are from, you tell them and they all start laughing and you have no idea why. Took me 18 years to realise why Clitheroe was a rude looking word. Odd the things you don't notice if you have grown up with it."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -

A board I used to visit changed band names a lot. If you typed in "boyzone" it was automatically replaced with "Talentless Irish Pr!cks"

My Netgear router sometimes blocks MSE when I post certain words that aren't rude, but are product names, e.g., the little blue Pfizer pill.
The post goes through, but the router blocks the page update . I'll figure out its configuration one of these days...0
