New front disc pads fitted for Ford Focus

Well it's both pads and discs - you don't change the discs and use the old pads. You're looking around £10-£15 for a set of pads and around £30 for a decent set of discs. You can get cheap discs for around £20 a set but you'll be replacing them again in a year when they warp.
Add to that an hour for labour. Personally, I'd go for the £75 quote as they've indicated they're going to fit the better discs by the "cheap ones" quote which is about the right price difference. £60 sounds a bit low.
At the end of the day your brakes are the only thing stopping you ploughing into the object in front at up to 70MPH. Don't skimp on them.0 -
Sorry its just the pads with fitting.
The £60 ish quote he asked for me reg plate never remeber it I just said itw as a Ford focus 1.6 2000 the year. I couldn't be precise because I didnt give him my reg plate
I need over work as exhaust rattles now think it needs a rubber mounting. Money tight as I shelled out last week for cam belt £165 fitted from a friend of a friend. I dont like asking them too much hence I want to go to a garage that does, tyres, exhausts etc0 -
Front discs and pads are a simple DIY job, if you have any friends with motoring experience you could ask them for a favour.
Personally I think £75 is a very good price for the work involved.
The exhaust rattle may be a loose heatshield (cheap) or a loose cat (expensive).0 -
the prices seem pretty fair, for a decent set of pads and discs it would cost this for parts at least at trade.
as its just pads, say parts £15-£25 approx and £40 approx for an hour labour.
fit the better pads, for the sake of £10 you will get more miles from them. the cheap ones will need doing again in 6 months.
last year i got a full set of mintex pads, discs and shoes for £70 for my 1.6 focus.fitted them myself.very easy to do....work permit granted!0 -
Thanks for your advice. I would go for the better ones anyway. Just thought initial it was a bit steep. I asked same company in Jan when they fitted tyres and I could of sworn they said about £40, must have miss heard them or got mixed up.0

maybe it would have been £40 when the car was on the ramp with the wheels off it,half of the work was done at this point....work permit granted!0 -
I asked them when car had been done though, sorry should have said that0
-
You could risk kwikfit if you're willing to put up with incompetent work and everything else supposedly needing replacing, just for the free replacement pads for as long as you have the car.0
-
Yes I asked about them the other week, I think I will pass on that. Thanks0
-
to be honest £40 is too cheap.
maybe the pads they were quoting were made from weetabix?...work permit granted!0
