can't have been a very good joiner...I got 2 cupboard handles £2.99 each at boyes 6 small screw for each handle and put them on it...were sod's to screw on but they will never come off...if he pre-drilled the holes first then there's your problem as they will have lost there tread...I didn't pre-drill just maked them out and punched the hole with a bradle..looks like a screw driver but has a point on the end...get the joiner back to do the job right...he should gaurantee his work...:DI just opened the loft hatch today about 3rd time since we had it fitted last week showing MIL. The hinge on it has already worked loose, I am going to have to get it replaced with a wooden hatch.

TBH I think the mdf was quite thin and he probably thought he could get away with it
I got the old hatch still but needs cutting down and its a bit mucky I rather gets some new timber and just use old hatch as a template. just needs two hinges fitted and a hole for the catch0 -

mine was 1" inche MDF so yes it would have to be thicker...cost me £25 for a 8 foot x 4 foot sheet of MDF then I got a sheet of thinner about 1cm at £6 for the sheet...this I used to go with the left over 1" and made the fire surround...I would have got wood but in north yorkshire seems to cost a fortune...:D
