I recently designed a logo for my company, nothing brilliant but suitable for a plumber .
Anyhow , I went to download.com and searched for logo. I downloaded a version ( forgot its name) and stayed up till the small hours perfecting the logo.
When it was all done I hit the file>save and got this message:
"unable to save in trial version, please pay and register".
I`ve nothing against people earning money but i was fuming as I should have been told before. So there was my logo on the screen with no way of saving it................until that is I remembered print screen and paint.

    He who laughs last....
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.
  • What's the name of the business? If not top secret, post it here and some of us creative types could have a go... :)

Further to other the other advice. What sort of image are you wanting to create for your company? Are you looking for a 4-colour process (CYMK) logo or monotone (single colour)? Are you intending to have a web site and/or printed leaflets? How many leaflets do you want printing? If it is a small quantity, then you can have them digitally print them (you can print them in RGB).Logos for the web are 72dpi whereas for printing in 4 colour your logo needs to be 300 dpi.

I am sorry if this is becoming a bit 'technical' but I could go on - I have been in the print & marketing industry for 25 years! and the amount of times people have brought to the printer, artwork that they did themselves or got a student to do it and is not compatible with the production process, you don't want to know. If you go down the student route, find out whether they have a good understanding of the printing processes, whether they have done work experience and where, then check out that company to se if they are of good reputation.

Nowadays, we all get leaflets that are pushed through the door - local takeways etc..- a lot of them look like they have done it themselves (and usually have) but their 'image' is of a fast food takeway.Whereas a similar leaflet for say a tourist attraction, will be more upmarket. Keep these and others and show whoever creates your artwork what you do and don't like. Decide what you will require:- letterheads, business cards, comp slips, invoices, labels, tags, brochures.......They should be consistent with your 'corporate look'. I could go on and bore you, if you want more info, then PM. Good luck.

You can't print in RGB, RGB is how colours are formed by light, which is why they work on your monitor. You can print from an RGB image, but it's not recommended as the colours can look "muddy" compared to if they were printed from a CMYK, but most PCs can't understand CMYK images unless they have specific graphic sofware installed.

You'd be best having a logo created in a program such as illustrator, then you don't have to worry about dpi as it works through vectored lines not dots, this can then easily be made into a jpg or gif for web and it also gives you the flexibility if you are having any promotional items created as most promo companies work from vectored files and you'd have to have the logo re-drawn (more expense)

When you do get your logo and corporate ID put together only let the design part of any agency do the minimum and then make sure it's done by an artworker (like me) who can follow the corporate guidlines and would work out a lot cheaper and any items would have to go to artwork in the end anyway and make sure you get the designers to mark up what pantone references they have used if applicable and what fonts they have used.

If you'd like any other info (or I've completely confused you) don't hesiate to PM me
