Cash card cloned

I have a basic account with Barclays and have just found out that my cash card has been cloned and all my money withdrawn over the last few days.
The bank has cancelled my card so no more can be withdrawn (none in there anyway!)
Someone has said that I should of asked the bank to honour all direct debits and standing orders until it is sorted out. Are they likely to do this does anyone know? Even though the account balance is now zero and the fact that it is only a basic account.. no debit card etc just cash card and no internet banking.
Any help/advice gratefully received and sorry if this is in wrong section

The norm is to ask for a temp overdraft to allow DDs etc to happen whilst the issue is resolved (but not for 48hrs after the card is stopped - as the fraudsters may have another go). However that could be a problem if it's a basic account ... but you can but ask?
