House insurance if letting

I want to rent my house out while I am abroad for a year.
Anyone know where I can get an appropriate, and cheap, insurance?
My previous policy through the AA just ran out and the renewal quote is horrendous.
Cheers.

you need specialist insurance that dont load the premium due to the perceiceved extra risk of tenants.
Go to http://www.landlordzone.co.uk/tenantinsurance.htm
I use C&R and they seem to be good, it is important to decide whether you need to insure contents as well as buildings, if you are letting it unfurnished, contents will only cover carpets so not worth it.

Hi
I'm about to let my flat for the first time. Does anybody know of anywhere that will just do landlords contents insurance. Our buildings insurance is already sorted by our Management Company and they have no problem with me letting my flat. I'm leaving it furnished but as it's only small I only need about £5,000 of contents insurance. Any ideas?

You can obtain contents only, or contents plus rent cover for let properties from Alan Boswell Insurance at:-
http://www.alanboswell.co.uk/landlords_insurance/onlinequote.aspx.
There is no minimum sum insured for contents but you have to be a member of a landlords association to qualify for the online schemes.0 -
