Student DS dilemma

Ok, have a little question for you all.....would you recommend that a student DS stays at Uni for the Summer term, to get the loan, even though he knows he is going to jack in his degree, or would you recommend that he quits to find a job - with the possibility of no money to pay his rent this term...?

Additional info - he's 22, lives in Leeds, (being a student) he is O/D, he has already had his summer term's "donation" from Mum, and Mum is guarantor for his rent.

Any suggestions please?

Floss xx

If he's available to start work straight away he could avoid job hunting later when everybody finishes in the summer.

Is he the type who might not pay his rent and expect you to pay it?Will he sign on while he's jobhunting? He should be able to claim HB (I think).

Why is he going to jack in his degree? Could stay on to pay the rent but that doesnt mean he has to attend anything (well it doesnt at my uni). So could potentially still be enrolled at uni, get the loans and have a full time job then quit at end of year. By now he will already have paid his full tutition fees so may aswell carry on and see how well he does in my opinion (forget the job attend the lectures etc.). I thought about quitting in my first year because wasn't going too well - but glad I didnt turned it around cracked on and doing really well now (in my second).

This is the 2nd year of his 2nd attempt - did 2 yrs of a MSc, then opted to change to BSc in different subject.... last 2 yrs have been self financing (paid own fees, only got 75% of loan + no grant). Hasn't done well in exams, so he feels may as well quit now, than totally fail.

Think he will carry on until summer, as SLC will want their loan back otherwise, then work after that.

He knows Mum will not be paying his rent, as Mum is supporting another DS at Uni too! So HB could be an option.
