Yes, I suppose I do live somewhere really strange. If I want to go to a farm shop I would have to travel over 200 miles. We do have a farmers market - but its full of craft items and homemade jam - which I can do myself. Fresh fruit and veg, and local meat are very limited at it. The big barn website doesn't help in my area.

To get locally produced food, one of the best places to go to where I live are the supermarkets. Especially if you class UK as local. And yes, I do by british where possible. I suppose meat might be the exception, but I buy so little meat that its hardly worth me going to the butcher.

Just because you have good access to local farm shops and farmers markets etc - please don't assume that we all do.

Where do you live then trow? Apologies if I made an incorrect assumption but given that most of the population do live well within 200 miles of a farmer's market or farm shop it seemed a reasonable one at the time.

Pal, not shirty, I think that you just unintentionally trod on a few toes.

Your arguments are sound and what you said makes sense but I think you were a little too emphatic and if I was aussielass let loose in a 'foreign' supermarket I'd want to try everything too, at least once, and then you can make your mind up after that.
As far as my ready meal purchases go - I trained in the catering trade and until 5 years ago spent all my working days in the kitchen and at least 1 night a week teaching which involved cooking 4 items off a dinner party menu plus the odd demonstration at WI meetings etc, so occasionally it's nice to put something on the table that only took 2 minutes of thought and very little effort. I promise that I won't make a habit of it

Apologies all round if I appeared to be lecturing.

My main concern is that if you are trying a lot of different food for the first time, at least make sure it is top notch quality. It would be a real shame if someone thought that a certain food was not nice just because they bought a poor quality example of it.
