I'm trying to level the playing field between US/UK pricing for exactly the same product, not break the law.

Did you try: Access USA at: https://www.myus.com ?

So if I was going to be in America would it:

    a. be possible for me to walk into a shop, buy it and walk out with no need for shipping? Then if so, which shop would be best?
    b. be liable for import duty?
    c. work ok when I got it home?

    thanks

a- Yes, unless you have been barred, CDW for hardware/software, gadgets and more.
b- Yes, so unwrap it and install on your laptop
    c- Yes.

good point about installing on the laptop but I would actually be buying an upgrade from CS2 Indesign installed on my mac desktop to the CS3 standard design pack. Or could that still be done provided I had the CS2 installed on a mac laptop? I may even buy a mac laptop whilst there....

    As per totalsolutions good advice.

Unwrap it all, buy a laptop case and bring it back through like you are using it and took it out there using it as hand luggage. You could always post the empty box back to you in the UK if you want it too.
