Take snacks and drinks with you and dont buy it from the stalls, burger vans that are there.
Take a loo roll and some baby wipes. The loo's are always disgusting at our one.
Dont set up as soon as you get there as the hoards of people will just descend on you--looking into your boot etc. Keep your boot closed and have a walk about the other stallsTRYING hard to be a good money saver :rolleyes:0 -
If its cold --take a flask of soup or tea with you.
Take carrier bags if you have some-people are always looking for one.
Wear decent shoes and a big jacket. Standing still is always cold.
i love a boot sale--doing one at the end of the month.TRYING hard to be a good money saver :rolleyes:0 -
Don't accept large notes from anyone - car boot sales are easy places for people to pass on forgeries to you. Suggest that the person gets change and that you'll hold an item for ten minutes or so whilst they do so.
Make your display tidy. And clean. If you wouldn't buy it then odds are neither would others. It puts people off coming over for a rummage if the stuff from a far looks err.
Keep like with like. Have a sort through what you're taking and if for example you have a lot of dog books, then put them all together. If they're cheap enough, who ever buys one, will probably buy them all, as long as they see them all.
Take a tape measure. People will always need to know the size of curtains, or picture frames, but never bring a tape with them!

Know what you are selling & do some research. Have a look on ebay at prices. The early starters are traders mainly, the odd tea leaf. Keep your expensive bits under everything else & get out last when you are ready. Traders will ask for mobiles, recods, jewelery, DVD's know how much you want be realistic though. Make sure all mobiles are charged & can be tested. Have a look at CEX to see if you have anything worth chopping in there before you go Disney DVD's especially special ediition can get a good cash return. Take drinks & snacks as these mount up if you have to buy them.0

I am also planning on doing a boot sale by the end of this month and am a boot sale virgin. Been trying to Ebay loads of stuff but so far have lost more than I have made so have given up on it. Got loads of clothes to sell but I have no rail to put them on at the boot sale. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could still sell them well? Getting a bit scared about doing it!0

sugarpants - as elainew says the other traders tend to descend on you and rummage through your boxes before you even have a chance to set up, they're wanting to get to the good stuff - you have to be really confident and tell them to leave alone until you're ready to sell - they obviously see the good stuff or stuff they can sell on so make sure you get a good price from them0

Have a look on freecycle for a rail. Post a wanted add. I got 2 heavy duty rails free of charge.
For ebay have a look at completed listing before you list.0
