Hi all,
Hope someone can give me some advice on Tube tickets etc. for this coming weekend, I'm down in London to run the marathon on Sunday but will be travelling down Friday and not leaving til Monday.
So my travel's going to be
Friday - couple of tube / DLR journeys going out as far as zone 3 I think.
Saturday - lots of tubes while I'm sightseeing! mainly zone 1
Sunday - couple of tubes in the evening going out to zone 2
Monday - maybe just one Zone 1 trip back to Euston.
Is it worth me getting one of the Oyster cards I've heard about? Or just get a 1 day travelcard (presume you can still get them! It's been a while since I was in London) for the Saturday and pay singles for the others??
thanks in advance for any advice people can give me.
cheers, Baggio.
(BTW I'm running the marathon - my first - to raise money for Tommy's, the Baby Charity - so if anyone would like to sponsor me then just send me a PM!! )

Firstly good luck for the Marathon, have fun and I hope you raise loads of money.
With your varied plans I would go for a PAYG Oyster card, these can be bought at tube ticket offices and many other outlets, no forms to fill in, just a £3 refundable deposit and the amount you wish to put on it, minimum £1 though that wouldn't get you far !!
A cash single fare on the tube, in zone 1, is now £4, as opposed to £1:50 with an Oyster card, if you make lots of journeys the daily total will be capped at 50p below the cost of a travelcard. 1 day travelcards are currently £5:30 off peak zones 1+2.
Make sure you touch in and out for each tube journey, just in on buses or you will be hit for an extra charge, £10 I think.0 -
The last thing you want to do is pay single fares
For you the simplest option would be a PAYG Oystercard - just load £20 on it, pay the £3 deposit and use it - remember to touch in & out on the Tube system, on buses you just touch in.
NOTE it probably won't be valid for any train travel (eg to Greenwich).
If you are intending to use the train OR intend using any of the offers on https://www.2for1entry.co.uk then a Travelcard is a better option.
Don't bother with the 3 day versions, just get the 1 day versions. And for your trip on Monday just bite the bullet and pay the cash fare0
