Now that it has been announced that there will be four high definition channels on Freeview by 2012 (first by 'next year'), wondering if anyone knew the technical specs will it be broadcast in 720i, 1080i or 1080p ( hope its the latter.

There'll be freeview HD long before that through Freesat. Knowing how these things work, 720p wouldn't come as a shock.

I doubt even the parties involved know yet. It's merely a consensus agreement to have HD AFAIK and the precise technical issues and which channels will be scrapped to free up the bandwidth are yet to be decided upon. Not only that you also have to take into consideration that to watch these new HD channels you'll need new tuning equipment, i.e. specialised freeview box which won't be manufactured yet until the manufacturers know what the exact spec requirements will be so who knows how much they will cost.
