B***dy bank charges!

 I'm trying, really I am! Despite meeting with our new - very nice - bank manager last week to plead my case as to why my bank account went overdrawn last month (by about £50) and she agreeing to waive the charges, I noticed today that I have actually been charged one of the £35 charges on my account.

I'm really unhappy about it because £35 represents approx. 6.5 hours work at one of my low-paid part-time jobs (I have two). Just what is the point of trying? _pale_

I was made redundant from a full-time job 2 years ago and, because of my age (58 and don't tell me it shouldn't count - believe me, it does!) I haven't been able to find another admin job locally. It doesn't help I live in a rural area where jobs are scarce, anyway. So, I have a part-time admin job and a part-time job in a supermarket which pays £5.60 ph. and I work there at weekends. I also suffer from rheumatoid arthritis which causes total exhaustion in me by Monday so much so that I am usually in bed all day recovering. So, looking at the £35 I realised that you could say I was working my butt off for the bank on one of the days I was at the supermarket and putting myself through agonies for good measure.

Sorry - bit of a rant.
I don't drink, don't smoke, don't go out - why aren't I rich?
Don't worry, I'm working on it! :p

  • She might just need a gentle nudge by phone, if you are able, if not, pop a letter in the post to her, she may simply have forgotten.

If she has promised to refund the charges, do make sure she does.

I actually received 3 letters from the bank (although I sprung into action after the first one) and I just assumed that all 3 amounts would be waived. I can't remember her exact words but she may have implied she could waive 'some' of the charges. Of course, it didn't help that I went into the bank to make an appointment to see the manager only to find that he had left, the under-manager was away somewhere else and this new manager was travelling up from another area and wouldn't be in for a couple more days.

I spoke to her by phone when she eventually did arrive and she was very nice. I just wonder if two of the charges were dropped but the third remains because apparently it's very hard to get the bank to drop any charges, usually! She spoke as if the charge thing was generally out of her control but she would do what she could.

At least, now, I am logging onto my account nearly every day and know exactly how much I have in the bank instead of burying my head in the sand and pretending everything was bound to be okay! :money:

It is just the thought of how much pain I have to go through to earn that £35 that annoys me!
