I found it very useful to have a good look at the kitchens in IKEA, they use so many whacky ideas and have a large range of "different" units that are great for inspiration.
Also download the planner from here http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_GB/rooms_ideas/kitchen/download.html and use it to see how your ideas might work out.The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -

Our kitchen came from B&Q - we got the bloke round with his laptop to design it and then got an independent kitchen fitter to do the work while we were on hols.
The pull out larder thingy is kinda like a long tall cupboard with wirw baskets in it which pull out - sort of like this but much taller - full height in fact

You should also ensure that the sink, cooker and fridge and close together to make cooking easier. Think about how much space you need at the side of the sink or near the dishwasher so you have somewhere to stack the dirty pots. Do you need a double sink? Heat resistant worktops? Somewhere for recycling to go, somewhere to feed the dog? Think about all the things you need to use the kitchen for an try and plan accordingly.
You can use designers online such as http://www.bobvila.com/DesignTools/ These can help you work on the layout, but they can be a bit basic. Also, sometimes they need to download software onto your pc in order to work.
THANKS you have given us loads to think about!0 -

Are these wire baskets strong? What is the advantage of the wire baskets over shelves?0 -
Are the corner units a good idea or not? I remember at some Ideal Home Exhibition which we were at, that when you moved the door to open the corner unit a light came on and there was 2 circle shelves. Is this a good idea or a waste of space? Someone is bound to have them, any suggestions!?!0

wire pull out shelves way better because, they pull out making access easier. I have two corner carousels and they are excellent at holding tonnes of stuff and still being able to get at it. highly recommended. we did our very large kitchen on a £1200 budget and its marvelous. beg borrow scrounge and barter. Got fan assisted stainless oven, gas hob (stainless) and extractor hood in B&Q for very little just by being cheeky and asking how much they would want for me to leave with it now. Very helpful manager.0

I think that is what I must get, pull out shelves and corner carousel/s, depending on plans. Can I be nosey and ask what size your "very large kitchen" is, please do not feel obliged to answer? What all had you to buy for your kitchen or did you hae most of it bought already? Did you do it any of it yourself? As previously stated please do not feel obliged to answer any questions. Think I will go to the manager if I am buying in a store!!
Where is best to buy kitchen units and where should we avoid?0 -

THANKS for responding yet again, we really do appreciate it. Gee, bet you are proud of yourself & your girlfriend!! Our kitchen is going to be 4.35m by 2.2m, so we should get it done for £1200 + labour. Hmm come to think of it how long ago is it since you got your kitchen done, was it recently or was it years ago??
SORRY for all the questions and as I said before please do not feel obliged to answer. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!! :A0
