I don't know where to start

  • Also don't know if this helps but those taxes you paid all the years you and hubby were working are funding your benefits now, you aren't getting freebies!

Oh thank you so much for saying that. You'll never know how much that helps me. I get remarks even from family (thankfully they live upcountry so out of my way) about 'scroungers' and how there 'must be a job' for me. It's alright for them, even in their 70's they are fit and able to work lucky them.

Someone mentioned the Yellow Pages, good idea and one I shall pass to my hubby but as I am profoundly deaf I can't use a telephone (another reason why getting a job is difficult).

I woke up much clearer today, yesterday was my moment of despair I'm afraid but I am really glad I plucked up courage to post on here. It's been boiling in my brain for ages and now it's out in the open, so to speak.
And just reading of other people's problems makes me feel better (sorry that sounds awful) as I realise I'm not the only one to have problems and indeed mine are really tiny compared to some.

I'm going to look at this £10 a day thread now and see if I can do anything there.

Thanks so much everyone, I'll be keeping you informed as to how I go on, but light is at the end of the tunnel now. Phew..;)

  • Some advances since starting this.
I phoned (using my deaf phone which means I use a typetalk operator to relay my message to the other end - it always worries me as the bank asks rather personal details!) .. I digress .. I phoned NatWest, asked if they will send me a new PIN for that other account I have, which they are doing. I also told them I wanted to use that for direct debits in future - all the household bills - and that I'd transfer a certain amount of money every week to cover that. The person the other end said it was a 'fantastic idea' and that if I write to Natwest giving them the d/d's I want to put in it, they would do everything for me, so I wouldn't have to get in touch with everybody myself.
Do you think this is a good idea or should I do it all myself?

So I am now waiting for that PIN. I have to sit down and work out a weekly amount that needs to go in for the bills. Now - I have all my household bills going out on the 1st of each month, apart from a couple that refused to let me swop dates, do I wait to change d/d's until after the first of May or do I do it as soon as my pin comes in?

I've been round the house looking where we can make even more savings and sadly I think we are doing all we can. One other boon is our central heating has been switched off, as it's now warm enough for us without it (jumpers etc). It's a nuisance because since becoming disabled we both feel the cold and it really 'attacks' us, making it hard to move about etc, so whereas we never bothered with heating before, now we really need it. But anyway, its off now so that's a saving.

can anyone think of anything else please?;)

    Hi Lilly,
Just posting to see how you are getting on.
You seem to be getting organised and more cheerful than your first post.
