    Spam off.

I'd take issue with the term "banger". There are loads of decent cars selling for silly money nowadays. I've managed well over 300K in 4 cars over a ten year period, none of which cost more than £1200 and all of which have been reliable.

  • i used to love bangers, in particular my 1993 citroen ax, paid £470 for it, fixed it just the way i wanted it, drove it for 2 years, sold it for- £495!!!

i got the best years out of it, it lasted 1 year- 18 months with next owner before getting scrapped. if you are going to buy bangers you REALLY need to know what you are doing and be prepared to buy almost anything if the condition is right.

my current car is 4 years old, i got it 2 years ago, its a completely different animal compared to the ax and i couldn't compare them
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

  • Hi, where's the best website to get car valuations please? I'm thinking of changing mine and I need to see what it is worth and get an impartial view on the cost of the prospective replacement. Thanks.

    Hi:wave:

I've got a mini. She's 3 years old and i've had her for about 18 months now.
OH keeps an eye on prices and thinks that she hasn't depreciated much.
He was careful when we bought about the colour etc because he thinks you should always take into account the price you are going to get when eventually you sell it on.

We've had new in the past but it's quite scary how much you lose just driving it away from the showroom.

Have fun with your car hunting:rotfl: :rotfl:

Probably class mine as bangers as both over 10 years old now. But 2 of the most reliable cars we have ever had. But both high spec cars, full leather, air con (but don't use it) and all the other gadgets. Both together cost me under £3000. I don't mind driving an older car, means we can also afford to run 2. Parts are usually available second hand. Any fixing or servicing me and my boyfriend do and always have done. Cars I see on a recovery wagon lately are all new ish cars.

    Cheap cars try the Auctions.
One day I might be more organised...........

  • Our present car (Seat Alhambra 1.9TD) was five years old when we bought it, it is now eight years old. We have had both sets of brakes and the battery replaced ; other than that it has just been general maintenance.

We will do what we always do with cars and keep it until it is unviable to keep it any more (i.e. when it costs more to repair than it is worth).

Then we will buy another 5-6 year old.

At least here in southern Spain they don't rust!
