Replace Hot water tank - what with???

My hot water tank is in the autumn years of it's life. What should I consider when thinking of a replacement. Have a gas central heating system (don't know if that has any bearing). Three bedroomed house - with only me living in it.

All ideas welcome!!

is the boiler the same age?
if so then consider renewing the boiler to a new combi. then you dont need a new HW cylinder.
a new combi can save up to 30% on your gas bill.
    Get some gorm.
  • Roughly how much are we talking about for the initial outlay??

    1k to 3k.
depends where you live and if you can find a decent cheap plumber.
the actual cost of the combi boiler is approx 500/1000 quid.
    Get some gorm.

Good morning: In my experience in the southeast, 'decent' and 'cheap' rarely go together when we're talking about heating/plumbing.... how about competent and competitive;) If you only have one bathroom, have sufficient water pressure/flow, and enjoy a decent shower, then I agree with Ormus. Others will disagree. This guide from the Energy Saving Trust will give you more info on the installation and specification of gas central heating http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/uploads/documents/housingbuildings/ce30.pdf
Get at least 3 full specification quotations from CORGIs recommended to you by a source you trust. Check a CORGI's credentials here www.trustcorgi.com . You can also find a heating engineer on the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering www.iphe.org.uk

Lots of research is order...many threads on here to help you out.
When you have your quotes in post the details here and we can comment.
Note: This advice is based on the assumption that your boiler is ancient and misbehaving.
