BG Homecare 400 cover - Anything Cheaper?

Hi.

I've just been quoted £37 per month over 10 months for my renewal price for my British Gas Homecare 400 servicecare agreement.

On average I call them at most twice in a year (sometimes not at all).

This covers my central heating system (including boiler), my electrics (wiring) & plumbing (water pipes etc).

Anyone know of another company who provides this service (covers the above) so I can compare prices??

Alternatively, can anyone suggest another way to get the same cover without paying BG?

Cheers in advance.

Alex.

Martin has an article on this.

If you do a search on this forum you will find several threads on this subject.

I think it is fair to say that there isn't anything a lot cheaper - for the same cover.

Most of the other schemes are simply organisations the contact your local plumber/electrician, and many are a complete rip off!

I have stopped my Homecare because it was just getting too expensive.

I also have the full works, central heating, electrics, plumbing drains etc. because I let a house and am a woman and can't do any of that stuff myself anyway!! But I have noticed how the prices increases each time. Don't be caught as I was on Friday. The guy came to do the annual check on the central heating and interested me in a carbon monoxide detector. Usually they sell for £58, he said, but because I'm here today I can do it for you for £38, saving £20. Thinking it was a sensible thing to do, even though never had any trouble in the past (although I can hear some telling me that's not a guarantee), I went ahead. Came home looked up more abaout it on the internet and found that on British Gas own website it's advertised at £22.99.
So rang to complain. If you fall in to the same trap, when the invoice comes, you then "raise an invoice dispute" with them to try and get the difference in price back. I'm told I'm not alone. So my suggestion is, if you don't have a carbon monoxide detector already and are thinking about one, order it online so you've got it ready when the guy comes and either check with him, you're putting it in the right place or diy. It needs one nail tacked into the wall, not heavy engineering!
