Canal boat / narrow boat hire

Hi,

I dont really know much about boats so please excuse me!!!
Does anybody know if you can hire these for just the weekend Fri - Sun or even just for one night for 2 adults? and if so where. We are hoping to go on the 25th or the 26th April. All the prices I have got seem to be for Fri - Mon for £380 ish. We can do it in the Yorkshire area, Cheshire area and North Wales too.
Thanks to anybody who can help me!

Andersen Boats are one of the biggest hirers in the Nantwich/Middlewich area but i'm not sure they will do such a short stay but it could be worth giving them a bell. That area is particularly nice, pop into the Old Barbridge for a pint, very nice place.
Claymore will do a day hire but it doesn't include an overnight stay, just a days cruising

Sorry - can't remember who we have used in the past but this site appears to have a list or hire companies

I think it is definitely worth calling and asking even if they advertise 3 day only - it is quite close to the day you want to go and I think they would be unlikely to get another booking for the same days- surely a shorter booking would be better than no booking for them?

You could consider the Norfolk Broads for a boating holiday. It's really one of the best places ( in Britain at least) for canal boating. http://www.richardsonsboatingholidays.co.uk do boats in this area. :money:

You really worry me ! You state " I dont really know much about boats so please excuse me!!!" Then you want to hire one.

Without being too dramatic do you realise people get killed each year because they ' don't know much' and make silly mistakes due to ignorance when using narrow boats. Principally it's when they're locking down and they have the stern resting on the lock cill. This can sink the boat and drown the people on board.

Please click the following link and read The Boaters Handbook this is a PDF file produced by Waterscape/ British Waterways which is a guide to basic boat handling and safety.. Perhaps a download and print would be to your advantage.

The first time any of us went on a canal boat, we didn't know much about it - it doesn't mean that we were all killed in a lock disaster otherwise the canals would have been drained long ago.

The important thing as newbies is not to take on too much - you may want to choose a canal with few if any locks, and take advice from more experienced canal users.

Don't let it put you off - canal boat trips are great, all you need is a nice stretch which a crew of 2 can do, lots of riverside pubs, lovely scenery - don't just go for the cheapest when what you want is the right boat and the right trip.

    Enjoy!
