this 10p tax issue.....

I have just watched GB, and it just looks like a massive fudge, with a few selected groups gaining, and a load of vague promises. Quite how this is enough to buy off Frank Field is beyond me, and yet again, the Press rant about U Turns, rather than looking at the fine detail and exposing this change as a complete sham.
Quite why he can't just simplify the tax system is beyond me. Merge tax and NI, raise the personal allowance, one or two bands only, close the many loopholes for the wealthy, increased personal allowance for children, stay at home Mums/ Dads can transfer their allowance to the childs other parent, and a higher allowance for OAP's. There will be a few people who make an unfair gain, but for most of us it would work, be simple and be fair.
Oddly, I actually think that the tabloids would back simplification as long as it was presented clearly, with properly costed figures, no hidden extras, and an open mind to make adjustments if major flaws are picked up. in fact totally the opposite of how Mr Bean operates!0 -
And don't forget that this is the man who gave pensioners a 50p/week increase a few years back. That forced another U turn.0

UP THE REVOLUTION. PS, I THINK US LOWER PAID WORKERS HAVE BEEN WELL AND TOTALLY SCREWED , WILL NEVER VOTE LABOUR AGAIN .
LOL. I stopped voting Labour as soon as Blair was elected. But at least this 10p tax rate fiasco means other low paid people are finally catching on to the evils of New Labour. Up the revolution indeed, brother. :cool:0 -
Basically they've said they might do something indeterminate sometime after the local elections (which is where the real flack has been coming from). Still your choice as to whether they are lying (my choice) or "broon-troosering" (also my choice) or attempting to do the decent thing (LOL, LOL, ROFL, ABSOLUTELY PI$$ING MESELF).0

As far as I can tell, I will remain worse off. The whole thing is a complete farce and an utter mess. The way it stands now as I understand is:
Three people have an income of £8,000 (for illustration purposes only).
One aged 20 will have the minimum wage looked at and possibly Working Tax Credits.
One aged 60 not working but in receipt of a company pension, will have the Winter Fuel payments looked at and increased this autumn.
One aged 58 not working but in receipt of a company pension, will have naff all done and will therefore be an ex Labour voter!
I am so mad about this. I have signed every petition I can find. I am waiting for the local labour party members to call before next weeks election so that I can tell them that I will never vote Labour again.:mad:To Dare is To Do:beer:0 -

I am at a loss to understand why men as well as women aged 60-64 may have the winter fuel allowance increased. The retirement age for men is 65!
Might as well give the extra to the 30 and 40 and 50 something men who've retired early.
Cameron suggested Loser not Leader. He should have settled for Laughing Stock......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
