    Hi,
In the Leeds area I had one fitted for £200.
Not happy, big box in hallway, wires running up surface of walls . I couldn`t complain because this hadn`t been discussed before.
Moral of story - Don`t forget to ask about wire runs, where box will go etc.
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

Argos have got a wireless DIY one for £85 at mo, should be reasonable quality as it's Micromark, have heard they are OK. Am going to get one myself at the end of the month.

Put Micromark in search box, select "see all" in "DIY, garden and car" section and it's the 8th one down, was £100.

If you find a decent one, cheaper than the Micromark one, could you let me know before I go out and spend £85 of potential holiday spends.

    Thank you.

    It really depends what you want. The standard wireless DIY shed kits such as "Response" 4 zone systems can be obtained for unde £200 form the likes of;

    The yale is also popular.

Pesonally i prefer the wired versions, less chance of false alarms and I fairly recently fitted a G3 panel and dual tech sensors from this company

    http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Alarm_Index/index.html

It works well and was very cost effective.

At the other end of the scale you can get a base micromark thing from Argos for a little as £90

I guess you pay your money and make your choice......

I had one of these alarms and NEVER AGAIN! First the alarm kept going off when I opened the back door even though the alarm wasn't armed. Then the alarm kept going off on its own and ALWAYS in the middle of the night (again when it wasn't armed). Then things came to a head when the alarm went off in the middle of the night and the key fob supplied and the main unit wouldn't turn it off. OH had to get a ladder and smack the thing to death with a hammer! I kept ringing the Micromark helpline and they just kept telling me to change the batteries whick I did loads of time and just cost me a fortune. We bought a new wired alarm instead!!!
    I would if I could but I can't so I won't!

Wired systems tend to be more reliable, more robust and less prone to spurious false alarms. There is good wireless stuff available, but I'd suspect not at £85 for a complete system. Wireless systems cost more to run as every sensor needs a battery (usually PP3) which needs to be replaced periodically. Also, the requirement for a battery means that the sensors (particularly door sensors) are less discrete than wireless ones as they need to house a battery inside the casing.

If you can minimise the visible wiring, I'd recommend a reasonable wired system such as a Texecom which can be had for around £120 complete. People lucky enough to live in bungalows can hide the wiring in the attic, but even in the ground floor of a two storey house, the wiring can be made very unobtrusive with a bit of care and imagination.

I've fitted several of these for family and friends and they have been utterly reliable.

  • Hi,
I have heard bad reports about wireless alarms! they can be prone to giving false alarms regularily, which you definately do not want!

A friend of mine got someone from the Loot!, I was going to fit him an alarm but when we priced it up it was cheaper for the guy from the loot to do it!

The guy was very good, he knew exactly where to hide all of the wires!

    good luck
