Renting Private Our Rights

Ok a bit of a long story but have recently become a guardian to my nephew, I already have 2 boys a 1 year old and a 2 year old. We currently live in a 2 bed council house but are finding that we just do not have enougth space. We are looking into renting privately as this would be a quicker option than applying for a 3 bed council house. But we have never rented this way before and I am worried about putting my family in an unsecure position.

What are my rights as a tenant?????

A council tennacy gives you many, many more rights than a private tenant under an AST.

The biggest difference is that a private landlord could give you 2 months notice towards the end of a 12 month tenancy that he requires the property back. You would then need to find a new home!

I would think long and hard before giving up a council house.
