im not so sure that the atm will take the money back in........ usually its a case of someone else walks by and ends up having a good time on the money.
but i agree, the best bet is to contact the bank - good on yersmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Agreed - contact the bank and tell them the ATM machine, date and time that it occured. Was it a generic cash machine? the difficulty is now, the customer could well have been using another bank's card in it as most will now accept a few types of card.
Me & my son found a wallet down the side of a seat in the cinema just before Christmas.
We didn't trust the spotty underage pondlife that were staffing the place but we looked in it and found a gym membership card, we returned the wallet to the gym instead. I let my son hand it in and it was also a good opportunity to teach him about how important it was to return the wallet.
There was no cash in it so I wondered if it had already been pinched and the cash taken. We left our contact details with the gym lady to demonstrate that we had been honest and not taken anything out if there had been cash in there when the chap lost it.

Contact the bank/ take it back - your conscience is your guide here and it is doing a good job for you.
I was forced to read 'The Waterbabies' as a child (awful book), which features a character called Mrs Do-as you-would-be-done-by, and although I hated the story (nothing Disney-pretty about the unabridged version!) I recognised the theory of fair play. It has to start somewhere, and it might as well be you, now.
Honesty is its own reward.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Right you can all shout me down now but I wonder how many of you would actually keep the money, I expect I probably would, just as someone probably did to me when I left cash in the cash machine once.
I am as honest as the day is long I have returned a purse, complete with cash, at least three mobile phones , a laptop and an art students complete course portfolio. All through bit of detective work, I will go out of my way to try and returns someones property but unidentifiable cash just abandoned at a cash point I think thats fair game, what would you have done if you found the money in the street.0 -

There are tones of honest people around. Last month I found a mobile phone on the way to the school but because I actually seen her drop it I gave it straight back, she was none the wiser. Then last wednesday evening found another top of the range mobile phone just as I stepped out of my car. I couldn'thave kept it as it had a baby picture on the front. Rang the persons mum on her contacts and she came and collected it an hour later. She was so pleased , don't think she could believe somebody handed it in. Ours got stolen a couple of years ago and I know what it feels like.
I feel I done another good dead and believe me I would have felt so guilty if I never returned the above.:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -

Its not unidentifiable though, the machine can pinpoint exactly who that money belongs to.0 -
It makes me smile to know that there is all these honest people out there:heartpuls

I'm very pleased to see it too, particularly given the way some people on other threads appear to have no morals at all.0

I only wish there were more honest people about around here. I had a very expensive jacket stolen last night in this year's Capital of Culture. Can't afford to replace it either.0
