Desktop help

My dd's friend went on to my desktop earlier today, but suddenly decided to go home. When I went up to use the computer the mouse arrow was shooting across the screen and programmes where opening left, right and centre. I managed to shut the computer down and start it up again. This time the mouse arrow wouldnt move nor none of the keys on the keypad would work. We have also tried to use the recovery disk to reboot but that wont work either. As they keyboard wont work we cannot even press the F8 key to put it in safe mode. Anyone have any ideas or is my computer knackered. We are on Windows xp home edition sp2.
We do have anti spyware etc on the computer

Have you tried another keyboard and mouse, it probably won't help but might be worth a try.

There's a couple of other things you could also try:

    1) Take the hard drive out and scan it for viruses, either by putting it in another pc or by using an external caddy for it.

    2) Reset the bios settings - you will probably have to do this by removing the CMOS battery and putting it back in again.

Sounds like the person using the pc done something, realised their error and made a sharp exit, can you ask them what they done ?

Keyboard wont work mouse all over the place .
Check batterys if its wireless and check connected on same channels usual press button on sender and mouse/keyboard .
Connections may be loose at back of computer .
Can you boot to the BIOS usually by pressing delete key .
Pressing F8 and not working keyboard and i presume you are still in a black screen . If so this is a basic level problem Before Windows and before most virus and trojans would play any part .

Hate to be the messenger of doom but my desktop system was doing the same thing. After several reboots it started to respond correctly but found other things started to go wrong.

Tried all manner of things to get it working (system restore etc) but nothing worked. Even at one point I had the machine telling me I had no anti virus installed when clearly I had.

In the end I just gave up and did a system recovery, best move I eve made, a cleaner, meaner machine and everything working just as it should. :T

I used to get this on old 95 machines that had Win 98 on them and a USB mouse. They couldn't cope with the mouse and they used to freak out. Any chance 'friend' messed with the mouse or mouse settings?
