Hi, I've downloaded some documents that I need. They opened up in Adobe reader and are fine. But when I save them to My documents they are just gobbledegook. I've tried to fathom out what the problem is, tried "save as" & change the file type, but it will only give me the option of Adobe pdf. Any ideas ?

When you've saved them to my docs, are you trying to open them again in Acrobat or something else like Word?

As they should only be reopened in Acrobat.

You can't save anything with Adobe Reader, it's a reader.

Yes you can. You can alter forms and save them off (yet few firms take the advantage of this option), and you can save the downloaded form. You can also resave the downloaded form as is.

Thanks folks, you've sorted my problem. I was trying to open them in Word. It works fine opening them in Acrobat. You wouldn't believe I've been using a computer for *** yrs would you.

^you might want to consider dumping Acrobat and downloading Foxit Reader : fast, reliable, small-footprint, takes up a minuscule of resources, and has a really fast start-up (all of the things that Acrobat is not) :)
