Shower Pump Advice Please

Hi all,

Question from my dear old dad that needs answering please

He has just bought a Showerforce Easiboost pump as his shower at home has cr4p power and virtually naff all flow, but after reading the instructions he thinks that his shower may not be compatible.

The shower (Triton Zante 2 model) is a 8.5kw pull switch electric type supplied by cold water only from the tank in the attic. He has got a cylinder in the airing cupboard if it is relevant?

I have had a google at this but my plumbing knowledge is very limited so I thought it best to get some expert advice from you wonderful folk! :D

Thanks for any advice :)

    Take the pump back.

His shower is an instant heat one and the flow through it is determined by the rate the 8.5KW element can heat passing water. Basically the heat control just lets less water through if you want it hotter - you can have a cold shower that will remove skin or a hot dribble.

I suspect that his shower is in fact supplied direct from the rising main rather than the tank!

There is no easy solution - a 10KW instant heat shower would give more flow for any given temperature as its more powerful, BUT its very likely the fuse, wiring and switchgear would all have to be replaced as it wouldn't be up to that sort of power.

Alternatively if he has a hot water tank he can have a pumped mixer shower, or if he has a combi he can have a straight unpumped mixer. However the simple answer is that pumps and instant heat showers don't mix.

Could you confirm that the shower is fed from the tank.If it is then it will indeed produce the poor shower you have.
It should be fed from the mains cold water.

    Hi,

Dad says that it's off the mains, not the tank - he just told me wrong when I typed this! Senile ol' bugg3r!!!

So the pump will be compatible with a mixer shower, yes? Or any other advice? The pump can't go back - man in a pub kinda rash purchase apparently!

    S'pose there's always Ebay!

    Hi

Wait 'till you get old;) Your kids will be saying the same thing!

If you have an installation book with the pump it will tell you the various ways it can be installed. If not try downloading it from website?
Most shower mixers will perform with a pump, again instructions will confirm, ( thermostatic would be preferable)
The best advice is to follow the instructions.

Shower booster pumps are not designed for mains supplies!
