Good news!
I've just read on the www.toolstation.com website that Travis Perkins have merged with them, so as a result they're opening LOADS more shops across the country.
I like the Toolstation cheap prices but normally have to get mail order, but hopefully they'll open a new shop closer to home now!
I'll be glad to be able to avoid Screwfix in future now! (bad experience!).

Hi
Sorry but I think that is a step backwards for toolstation.
Travis Perkins (under the name City Plumbing ) took over a small chain of plumbing and heating shops where we used to live . You could go in and buy a huge range of products and if they didn't have it they would get without any problem at all. City 'streamlined ' the product range and the prices increased.
I loath Travis Perkins.
Just my opinion

Travis took over several local merchants. Prices went thru the roof. Hate them. If you remember Screwfix before Kingfisher (B&Q) took them over, you'll know the prices were cheaper, and the service better. Thats what will happen with toolstation now. real big shame.
Travis took over Wickes and the prices went up.

I agree with you 100% on this!
This is not a good thing!
Travis Perkins openly rip people off in their shops, unless you are a tradesman, in which case you will get upto about 60% off most items.
Travis perkins also own wickes now I believe.
I won't be using Toolstation ever again now and will do everything to avoid them. Ironically the oeople that own toolstation used to own screwfix, until they sold it for a huge amount.0 -
This is interesting. I have always found TP to be cheaper the B&Q and they deliver locally FOC. Not used them for a while though.0

travis have bought 30% of toolstation and will invest cash into them progressing and expanding,BUT toolstation will still be run as a seperate concern by the same people who own it now,in 4 years time if there making good money travis will buy the other 70%Live in my shoes for a week, then tell me your lifes hard!0

guy who owns Toolstation set up and sold Screwfix to B+Q
Toolstation was created by Mark Goddard-Watts, a founder of Screwfix, the largest direct selling operator in this market. He and a number of former executives of Screwfix left that business after its acquisition and Toolstation was subsequently launched in 2003
B+Q's lawyers forgot to add a clause stopping him from working in the same line !!
Toolstation is run from the old Screwfix warehouseEx forum ambassador

Well I've just been charged £9.50 for a 20kg bag of lafarge mortar mix, could'nt believe it!. I already knew they overcharged on wood but this is rediculous.
Must be double the price charged in Wickes or B and Q
That's definately the last time I use Travis Perkins Cranbrook. What a bunch of thieves.0 -
Yup. Just been charged double the B&Q price for building lime at Travis Perkins even after my account holder's discount. Pity B&Q stopped stocking it.
