Cutting the Cost of Moving Overseas!

Hi, anyone have any tips on moving overseas? We are moving to New Zealand at the end of the year (hopefully), so starting to research everything now. We know we'll need to use a shared container and we will be having a massive clear out and only taking absolutely what we need to take with us. There are a large number of shipping agents out there which we will all get quotes from... but if anyone has any ideas how to get cheaper shipping overseas greatly appreciate it!
Also we will be taking our beloved cat with us, any tips on cheaply being able to do this would be fantastic - as this does seem to be very expensive.
Have had a very good look at the cutting the cost of moving hunt thread - but there are more costs associated with moving overseas - can't see any other thread on this one!
