Hi OzzyJ
Would you have any further proof of this occurring as it is something l have not heard of before, not even on the Skpe Forums0 -
I take it you cant call landlines via these phones, its just internet phone to internet phone right

You can call landlines if you also get SkypeOUT heres the call rates to compare to your current charges.
Would be worth you looking at Skypes site as there are other options such as SkpyePRO0 -
I bought this phone on Sunday from a Tesco Extra and you actually get 1000 bonus clubcard points, not 500.
You also get £5 worth of credit with it too.
Tesco E212
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-6370.aspx
It states 500 on the website plus triple points. Knowing my luck i will get 500 not 1000!!
Anyone else had sucess with 1000 points with this one?

All those options seem to have a limitation that the person at the other end must use a certain provider (i.e. Skype)? There may be another option which is basically a VOIP provider - all you need is a broadband connection, special box where you connect your phone to and a subscription (so it's not completely free). Advantage is that you can possibly call foreign countries at a very low rate, especially if you call a lot (calls are free, you pay just the subscription fee). Plus, if you go abroad you take the box of your VOIP provider and can call home for free (you still need to pay your subscription though).
There are a few to choose from - i.e. BT, PlusTalk, Wanadoo Talk, Vonage. On some of them you can get a decent cashback (i.e. £40 cashback here: http://www.quanti.co.uk/merchants/vonage/ - their blog claims you can actually win extra £40 when you sign up to vonage now but let's ignore it) so it lowers the cost significantly so there is no point in using "free" ones with number of limitations.
There is the third alternative as well. Depending which country you want to call you can use low cost (0844, 0845) numbers. You can find numbers that charge 1p or 2p per minute (plus 5p connection charge) to 100s of countries (usually landlines except US/Canada). This is what I use and find it quite convenient without buying any additional hardware, subscription etc.0 -
... but if you and all your friends sign up for VYKE on your mobile AND PC, you will have almost free calls and texts wherever you are. See reference on this site last month at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/free-text-messages#mobile.
Just think -everyone on pay-as-you-go and no more £40 per month contracts - save £300 per year0 -
Scarborough Tesco have some VOIP phones for under £4 and you get £5 credt!!!!!0

Maplins £2 http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=99362&doy=10m4
Has connectors to your headphone & microphone sockets not USB. Comes with 2 AAA batteries to be used as a speaker phone as well. (use your keyboard to dial)0 -
I am fed up with seeing Skype being promoted by you and all, as I get a bad taste in my mouth.
Me too, I don`t use them anymore (other than for skpe to skype calls )after realising quite late that they`re more expensive! I use the likes of voipdiscount and voipcheap etc and get 150 mins free calls a week both domestic and intl. If I go over 150 mins it starts using your 10 euro credit but even then it`s still cheaper per min than skype0
