Tax Credits info required!!!

We are really feeling the "credit crunch" and are about to apply for tax credits. I need to know if the amount you are rewarded is set for a period of time or if the details be changed after a few of months? I need to know as in September my youngest son starts nursery and this would change our financial requirements. Should we apply now or wait until September....please help!!!
