Tip: sell your tesco vouchers/is it legal to buy/sell them ?

Dear all,

After looking into purchasing a MFI kitchen I discovered this. People are selling tesco vouchers for CASH more than their face value.

How and Why you ask.
Well they are worth 4X that amount to some people. And indeed I am one of those people !

Looking on ebay it seems that those selling are making a killing.

I came up with the idea of getting people to sell me their vouchers while hanging around the store. But I have 2 questions I hope the people here might be able to help me with. OR direct me to someone who has tried this already.

1. If I buy vouchers from multiple people can I use them when buying from MFI. ie. do they check that they are my vouchers (YES I KNOW THEY HAVE NO NAME ON)

2. Would I be upsetting TESCO's you think if I do this outside their store ?

Now, only MFI gives you Clubcard Points across every room in the house!

That’s right; we’ve teamed up with the Tesco Clubcard scheme to give you even more value.

So whether you shop in-store, online or over the phone you can earn 1 Clubcard Point for every £1 you spend!

But that’s not all…..
Did you know the Clubcard Points that you earn through Tesco, MFI or any other partner can be turned into Deals Tokens, which are worth 4X the value of your vouchers, and can be redeemed for full or part payment towards your next purchase from MFI.

So that means if you spend £4000 on your dream kitchen, that gives you £40 in Tesco vouchers which you can then send to Tesco and get an MFI Token worth £160 off your dream bathroom, bedroom or sofa!

I think you will find the answer in your own post.

You don't hand MFI tokens you have to send them to Tesco to be converted.

PLus, if Tescos get wind of what you are doing outside their store, they will most likely conviscate/void your vouchers - they usually have something in the terms and conditions that say 1) these remain the property of Tescos at all times and 2) vouchers may not be exchanged or sold for cash etc....

The people selling on ebay generally convert the vouchers to the "deal vouchers" of the buyer's choice once the auction has finished - i.e. MFI vouchers or Alton Towers tickets etc...

I heard somewhere that all new deals vouchers will have your name on and you will be asked for id when spending them!

Anyone confirm this? Seems to bring an end to selling on ebay if the asking for id bit is actually followed!

the only problem you would have is when it comes to changing the vouchers into deals,

beg aroung all your family and friends, it's a safer way of getting the mfi vouchers (these vouchers do not have any name on them).

i noticed on ebay if you wanted £100 in deals it would cost you around £80, it's still a saving if you fall short from all the begging.

i have not heard that one, it's a bit unfair as me and my partner both have clubcards and change our vouchers for the kids on days out deals............

Just received MFI tokens. They have my surname printed on them. The rules that came on a separate sheet with them clearly states that they can only be used by the person named.

my deals vouchers arrived yesterday, some theme park deals tokens (the ones that are £10 towards getting into certain places) and some are full tickets (legoland). none of them have my name on. perhaps it's just the MFI ones that include your name?

I recently used all our accrued vouchers towards a trip to Disneyland Paris. We had something like £120 of vouchers which converted to £480 in vouchers. The actual holiday came to just over £600, so I phoned Tescos to ask if we could use my parent-in-law-to-be's vouchers to bump up the vouchers we could use.

Their reply was that as the system was being abused by people selling them on various auction sites, certain deals would now have the card holder's name printed on them, and they absolutely NOT be transferred to anyone else. I mentioned that obviously my parent-in-law-to-be's name was the same as my WTB, but they said that unless they were coming with us, the vouchers would be useless towards our holiday.

Finally I asked if this new condition was for all deals, and they replied that most small deals would still have no name on them, but any higher value (such as MFI, holidays etc) would always have the name on, and can only be used by the named person.

Tesco are putting names on vouchers for holidays, MFI and Goldsmith jewellers, BUT vouchers for other "S" code items (they mentioned S3010 - days out) can be used at MFI and they won't have names on them.

  • Good morning Everyone, this is my first post.
I wrote to tesco last week, generallly about the holliday tokens and other people giving you vouchers.
I think if people are going to buy other people's vouchers, they should be aware of this. As some of the vouchers at ebay are really gaining a lot of interest.

    This my reply from tesco

Thank you for your email to Tesco Freetime.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to use anyone else's clubcard vouchers for any deals.
When we send out the tokens they will have the voucher holder's name on them. In order for you to use them the voucher holder's name would have to be included on any bookings.

If you do have any other questions or would like to order holiday brochure you can call us on free phone 0808 100 0707.

    Many Thanks
