Microdirect/laptop charger

We bought a replacement laptop charger from microdirect as my original charger stopped working (the green light on the transformer would not come on at all). This was a "universal" charger with interchangable heads to fit any laptop, costing £20.
The new one worked for a day and then stopped, clearly a broken wire or something as you could twiddle with the wire and it would show as "powered up" again (the light on the laptop itself)
My husband tried to take it back and they refused to admit the charger could be faulty, stating it was probably our battery, or the laptop itself which was at fault. He plugged it into one of their chargers which promptly seemed to shut our computer down. He refused to try it in any more in case our laptop damaged their equipment! He used the wrong output level i am sure. He then denied this had happened and that he powered the laptop down himself! A barefaced lie! The attitude of the staff was appalling!
We quoted sale of goods, not fit for purpose etc and he said the only way to get our money back was if it was in the original box. Incensed we returned home and dug the box out of the wheelie bin! They took 20 minutes just to put our refund through and I am sure they only did this under duress as they had nearly bust our lappy!
We then went to pc world and bought a similar one, which they tested out for us there and then and were very helpful, they confirmed there was nothing wrong with the battery. Mind you we paid over double for the priviledge (£50) but I will never be going back to micro direct again!!

so you got it sorted right? and may companys do that! they ask for the box etc as they can sell it or return it!0

Nah microdirect are scum - missold stuff to a mate, wouldn't take it back similar to me with a broken item. Once you send them a letter threatening court action within a few days they change their tune but they're run by a bunch of thieving monkeys0

Yes they have now accepted a faulty item back which has been re-boxed, what are the chances they are going to sell it on again to some unsuspecting customer, no doubt they will deny it is broken to them too!! Be warned!0
