separating and claiming tax credits

Hi
I'm hoping that someone can give me some advice about tax credits. My husband and I are separating and we currently have a joint claim for tax credits. What will have have to do to alter our claim? Does anyone know what information I will be asked for? Our finances are still being sorted out. We may have to live under the same roof for a while so will that affect things? Sorry for all the questions! I want to know what I'll need to do and what information I need to provide. Its a stressful time as it is.
Thank you
money_spider

p.s I work 16 hours per week, earn approx 10,000 per year and have 2 children (childcare costs are £35 per week).

You'd have to ring them up and advise them of the change of circumstances. Being on part time hours, your payments will drop a bit.

Separation can be a grey area.

If your husband remains in the family home and continues to contribute fully to the family finances and the running of the family home whilst you are trying to sort out the separation then you need to keep your joint claim running. When everything is sorted you can make a claim as a single person. Put simply not sharing a marital bed is not enough to say a couple are separated.:o

It is also best for both of you if you both contact TCO to advise of the separation. That way both of you can be sure that things have been done correctly and that TCO have your correct addresses.
