BBC iPlayer

Anyone know of a codec or similar which will allow iplayer files to be used beyond 7 days ?

    Hi
AFAIK the files that you have downloaded are DRM protected so they're not viewable after their expiry dates.

Some of the BBC iPlayer programmes are still being made available as DRM-free mp4 files. These don't expire.

I have not tried, but I think the following would work.

Play the iPlayer download on your TV and record from TV to a DVD.

They are DRM protected with Microsofts WMP DRM I believe, recording via the TV is too impractical.

I am unable to understand why as a licence payer and UK citizen I cannot retain these files beyond 7 days. I can record them to my Virgin+ HD and retain them, even then burn them to DVD but it's all a hassle when you become used to net torrents etc.

The BBC must see that the end of buying full series on DVD is on the horizon, I'd be happy for a DRM crack which will overcome the 7 day cut off.

For those who suggest that this thread is in some way piracy related, before passing comment ask yourself if you have ever recorded from the TV on a VHS or a DVD recorder...or even the top 40 on a cassette years ago.

It's the freedom to retain the shows to which I have contributed with the licence fee I want.

Crack or hack needed, all suggestions appreciated.
