Abbey bank help?

my partner opened an account and applied for a loan with Abbey bank and loan. The account was approved with like a overdraft of 300 pounds and the loan was not. We got the information on the accounts in the mail and my partners name was spelled wrong so we thought that this was the reason why. We went into the bank and told them and they said they would look into it and give us a call which never happened. Then we received a letter stating that the process of transfering his account to abbey was progress. So we called and told them we didnt want to transfer funds to abbey and they told us there was nothing they could do since it has already started.
We dont know what to do his typical overdraft is around 3000 (approved) and now we have to settle to 300? We think it has to do with the misspelling of his name even the papers said they couldn't find a credit history for him.
What is the easiest way to stop this process? Can they really do this? We are hoping that his bank will not approve since his name is incorrect?

If you applied via the switcher service they should match your existing overdraft. Loans are credit scored using a different system to bank accounts and you may therefore have met enough points for a bank account but not the loan. When you get your decline letter you can appeal the decline and it will be looked at by a person rather than the computer saying no. Alternatively, contact the switcher team direct and tell them you wish to cancel the account and they should stop the transfers. You will need to contact the DD's already swapped over though and get them put back to your old account if thats what you decide to do. They are saying it is too late to stop the account but that they will match the overdraft facility from the other bank.0
