We get told oh all young people can't buy a house because they buy iPods and stuff etc.... when to be honest the big telly/games consoles etc are probably relatively cheaper than my parents black and white 15in was. The TV show does stuff so breezily - they paid off some debt and she became a debt advisor. It's why loads of people sign up but never actually make headway because the reality is much more complicated, what if your partner wants a telly and you have arguments or the same nagging each day, I remember Sarah having something like 43p for milk and stuck at home to pay off the 7k, but the show said they made a budget doesn't really convey the grim reality sometimes of sticking to it. There was no mention of the extra jobs or the fact that the xbox is probably Ste's sanity when he's in watching the kids after a day of work so Sarah can do countless jobs... to pay for the childcare to do the training. None of that was in the show - that's why she was on telly because it's very rare and difficult to work your way up. 99% of couples would have failed but that wasn't in the show just the big f*ck off telly grinning away...
I completely agree BB, and I guess in some ways we just get defensive because we all know and love IA.... What annoyed me about the post was the assumption that we are all stupid because we are in debt, when we all know its not always as simple as buying expensive stuff we can afford...
