BOURNEMOUTH - Anything new this year?

We're off to Bournemouth on Saturday for a week - we have been before, but would be interested in anything newly opened this year, or any new freebies or cheap things. Two adults and a 10 year old. Thanks in advance

nothing new has opened this year im afraid.
You can always go to hengistbury head and do a big walk round there to mudeford quay, then go crabbing at mudeford and then get the little noddy train back to hengistbury where you left the car!! All that for only a few pounds (train fare and crabbing lines etc...)
There are always the gardens in bournemouth near the pier where you can play crazy golf if your 10 year old would like that.
you could go and sit on the beach at sandbanks (but get there early as its very very popular) and while your there admire all the really rich peoples houses and aspire to love there one day lol (me and frizz head do that!!)
If not just the usual cinema or imax, splashdown in poole (but that is very expensive i think!!) bowling in poole as well as bournemouths one has now closed down.
Loads of restaurants depends what food you like. Give me some idea of the food you like and i will see what i can recommend0 -
Thank you. How do you get to Mudeford Sandbank (with the beach huts) from Hengistbury? Can you get the little train. or is it a ferry? Thanks. For eating I have already saved my Tesco clubcard deals to use at Bella Italia and have BOGOFs for Harry Ramsdens and Little chef. Other than that I think it will be whatever I can knock together or Mc Ds...........unless you have any other ideas!0

You should be able to plough your way through the list of activities and attractions on the following link: http://www.touristnetuk.com/so/bournemouth/index.htm
We also enjoy the occasional trip across to Brownsea Island, which is situated in Poole Bay. It is now managed by the National Trust, and costs £10.40 for a family ticket. It's a peaceful, tranquil island, ideal for a picnic, and is one of the remaining places in UK that has red squirrelsYou can catch the boat from Bournemouth Pier, the ticket office is situated on the pier; just follow the route passed the Gents public loos. I can't find any detail on the web, but I know that there is the FunderDome and Kings Park in Boscombe. It is marketed as the largest touring Theme Park in Europe. Probably won't be cheap; but you should be able to pick up more detail from the Tourist Information Office.
Don't forget too, that Sothampton & Winchester are only a 20-30 mins train ride from Bournemouth. There are plenty of activities there. Mind you, I prefer the quiet life; and would probably jump off somewhere in the New Forest. Happy to offer suggestions if that cranks your handle.0 -
Castlepoint is fairly new, but probably not much fun apart from for Mum(though there are Nandos and Frankie and Bennys for food). It's not new but Paultons Park back out on the M27 generally has a couple of new rides each year, should be OK if a bit pricy for a 10 year old(unless they've been to Florida already!)0

you can actually walk acros the head to get to mudeford from hengistbury, its a lovely walk and not to much effort (my 7 year old daughter has done it since she was about 4). Or you can get the little train across which is nice as well. I dont know if you 10 year old is in to kites but hengistbury is the best place in the area to fly kites they are always loads of people up there doing that (mr divadee included!!) that might be something for you to do.0 -
Also if you have a look here at the bbc site it can give you other stuff that is going on in dorset, as swanage and places like that are always lovely. I always like to visit corfe castle when i go to swanage.0

Well we are just back, having enjoyed about the best week of the summer weather wise. Cheap things we did included a great walk around Hengistbury and some kite flying tho unfortunately couldn't identify Mr divadee also a day out in the new forest. Found a nice bowls club of all things on the cliff top just west of the pier - great cheap cakes and cuppas. I enjoyed the russel coates museum - free - and on the same day Mr princess and master princess went to the swanage railway (children free with voucher from 'whats on in dorset' brochure from beginning of sept). Also ate well with Tesco deals vouchers. Found a nice walk along the stour near ?iford bridges. Many thanks for your tips. You live in a lovely part of the world.0
