Moving to a new house with Talk Talk

Just wanted to find out if anyone has been through this before I ring Talk Talk.

We are moving into a brand new house in the next few weeks (exact date TBC). At our old house we have a Talk Talk home phone with broadband (we pay nothing to BT at all). We are a few months into a new deal with Talk Talk as well. Ideally I would like to simply move this "service" to the new house. The new house has the sockets fitted and simply needs connecting up to the exchange.

Am I worrying unnecessarily? Will Talk Talk cope with this?? Or am I going to end up paying BT to do something somewhere down the line?

Talk Talk can connect the lines up with a wholesale supplier. But unsurprisingly they'll probably pass you back to BT to get the line connected (and a 12 month contract with BT undertaken for your troubles).

Call them asap regarding it so you can get an answer.

They are now supposed to be offering a Home Moving Service . Read this post on their forum. http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40

But they still dont appear to be connecting new customers direct. They still require you to have a BT Line.

I have to say Talk Talk do get some bad press but they have been very helpful. We finally have a moving date so I phoned them to arrange to transfer. They look the postcode of the new house and very nicely said that they could not offer exactly the same service I would have to get the line laid on from BT (because its not an unbundled exchange). I could go back to them for the broadband but only if I wanted to.

You can't ask for more than that really. I just hope BT are as helpful.

How are they being helpful if they dont offer a full and proper home moving service as suggested.

Perhaps Talk Talk Support would like to comment on this one,and tell us if
Talk Talk do offer a full Home Moving Service for all customers,or is it just restricted to certain exchanges?

Lies!

The can offer that, they just won't - because they are unwilling to set up the necessary internal procedures to place the necessary order with Openreach and pay upfront!

If you take that dubious advice, be prepared to pay a £70 penalty for breaching the 12 month contract with BT to which you'll be committed when they install/reconnect the line.

Thanks for flagging this with me utilitybroker. If you contact TalkTalk and explain what you want to do "move house" the home mover team will process your request.

If your new house is on an LLU exchange then the products you are subscribing too will carry across however if the exchange is not LLU then we wouldn't be able to offer you the free Broadband if you already have it now.

So what do we do.....
Once we know the details of the new house WE will make the arrangements with open reach to get a new line provisioned and active in the new house, we will then provision our services onto this new line, then when you move we disconnect the line in your old house.

I believe there is a charge of about £120 but the home movers team will be able to confirm this, Also note that the charge is not for us, its what we have to pay BT/Openreach to provision the new line.

What would be the status of the line after any minimum term expires and the customer wants a BT line restored?
Would Talktalk keep the phone number?

Sorry I don't fully understand your question?.... If a customer wants to leave TalkTalk and go back to BT then BT will complete a reverse migration and take the line and service from us.

In this situation your number will stay the same.

so can you confirm that all the money peter pays to talk talk (the£120ish) goes to openreach ?

Really meant in the situation where Talktalk initiate the new line connection for transfer to their LLU what happens on "return" to BT.
Any official info on "reverse migration"? Are there costs involved?
