Seems that these people don't like the truth being told to them. Benefits are not there to allow people like nikosoboush to keep up the standard of living they would like by choosing to work the minimum of hours.
And if they post on here and expect us all to support them well they're wrong and so good riddance

This was not the original intention with the welfare state, but unfortunately, this is the way it works now. It is unfair to blame individuals for taking advantage of the nonsensical taxation/ benefit system currently in place. The fault lies squarely in the government's hands for allowing the situation to arise.

Individuals are responsible for their own actions, regardless of government policy. Nobody has to manipulate the benefits system just because it may allow them to do so.

Of course "Nobody has to manipulate the benefits system just because it allows them to do so". But for many people the choice is claim benefits including HB and CTB, or work full-time and be no better off financially (or only a few pounds). It is no contest....why work in an awful job, when you can have the same amount of disposable income for not working? My point is that we can NOT blame the individual for use of nonsensical rules set by the government.

I think we are on the same side.......the whole benefits system is crazy.

Yes, there is a very clear choice. It is known as self respect.

Some people have no choice but to live off benefits, and they need all the support and understanding that we can give. But those that make a career choice to live off benefits ... I can't find a polite word to describe them!

Edit: The OP does not appear to be coming back. Maybe the thread should be closed before it goes off on a rant (I ranted ... sorry!)? x

The fact that you feel that this is a valid question says a great deal about the state we're in as a country. I do agree with you that the situation is mad but we're into benefits policy here so I'll shut up!
  • why did you bother posting in my thread?

nice comeback nikos, dont let the people here get you down. they dont know what it's like to goto work, be treated like crap only to be worse off financially for doing so.

in regards to your question re. work and HB, i think you can get it due to the high levels of rent.

use this benefits calculator to find out how much HB you will get.

    good luck m8,

It was not really meant as a question to be answered but the view that is put forward by people who do "manipulate" the benefit system.. Unfortunately there are no definite moves to reform the benefit benefit, merely huffing and puffing. This government is so keen on means-testing that I would guess that more households are means-tested than not. I am sure that the intention is to means test the entire country.

We have moved away from the OP (nothing personal in my posts). Do you fancy starting another thread? Or is there an existing one ...I can't find one. Thanks.
