Samsung DVD hard-drive recorder problem

We purchased a samsung LCD TV and dvd recorder 5/6 weeks ago.

Whenever I record to the hard-drive, during playback, clear horizontal lines track from the bottom of the screen up to the top. This happens every few minutes. However this doesn't happen if we record to a DVD disc. I have emailed Samsung but would like to be for-armed with some info in case I'm fobbed off.

    is it a Samsung SH853M dvd/hdd recorder?

if it is take it back and get a different model, mine has been back twice and i finally got a refund today.

i had loads of problems with copying from hdd to dvd the lip sync was totally out.

have a look at av forums and see the complaints on the Samsung SH853M

    yes it is.

I didn't think I would be entitled to a refund though as it's after the 28 days return policy?

It was purchased from Comet and I know they offer a repair service so they may want to go down that route first?

What i had to do with pc world (i hate them but got them to price match!!) is i took the first player back 2 and a half weeks ago, this was bought last sept, they were sending it off for repair, but samsung just said give her a new one, we picked this up yesterday, but i tested it immediately an the new one had the same fault. So we went in this morning and got a full refund. They did try to palm us off with vouchers but i told them the sony i wanted was not available from pc world, he went and spoke to the manager and he authorised the full refund.

I would suggest try a similar tack with comet, return and see what happens, but comet i think are worse than pc world, they hate giving refunds!!! I always think they act like it is coming out of their own persoanl pocket.

Also if its less than 6 months old it is up to the retailer to prove it isnt faulty when purchased not you to prove it is.

Thanks Divadee. My husband is much better at things like this than me but I will give it a go. I'm going to call Samsung at lunchtime so I'm hoping they'll tell me to take it back but I may still be stuck with Comet's policy to try and repair it.

I too have a Sony in mind (model RDRHXD870B). Sounds like the Sony would be much better.

I wouldnt worry about samsung as your contract is with comet not samsung, i would take it back today to get the repair ball rolling, that will probably take a couple of weeks, if it works great, if they give you a new one, double check everything works, if not take it back asap and ask for a refund.

as for the sony thats the one i have just ordered from rgb direct for £185!

i had seen it slightly cheaper at £180 but from a company i had never heard of and some of the reviews were iffy.

i have checked out rgb direct and asked on here and havent found a negative yet!!

If you want i will let you know how i get on with them?
