property inspection

I am thinking about buying an old farmhouse (circa 1800) near Edinburgh, however after a number of lost bids and paying out almost £2000 in surveys for unsuccessful bids, can I get a report that will give me any kind of indication of problems with this property. The market isn’t slowing in Fife, I have bid £32k over the asking price for £152k house and still lost out
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

Tell me about it! I have lost over £2,000 in travelling costs (from England to Scotland, up and down the bloody M6/M74 to view properties, bid on properties, pay surveyors fees to get a survey before you can bid and then they go to a closed bid and continually losing to people who bid thousands over the value of properties! That's the Scottish house market in my experience. Finally, last month, offer was accepted legally and I move into my new country cottage on the 14th September :j but I know all about losing £2,000 in surveyors fees...it's sheer madness to have to shell out all that money then lose the properties. I know exactly how you feel

Make sure you get a structural survey and not a market value survey and this should show up any problems. Good luck.
