Nice to see people are friendly and polite to people asking genuine questions when they are unsure of something.
Thank you to all of the people who have posted genuine replies - THEY are appreciated.
I am sorry if you feel hard done by - BUT - as you seem to be intelligent enough to sign up to MSE, I just wonder why it is so difficult to do a couple of minutes research yourself and find out things like:-
1. Average gas and electricity consumption in the UK.
2. Actual cost of a kWh of energy
Your post doesn't indicate how much energy you have used or what tariff you are on.
I and many others are more than willing to help people, but is it too much to ask for people to at least to try and help themselves first ? You may notice at least two other posts on this theme, perhaps more diplomatically put.0 -
A further update!
Just had a call back from E.On. They believe that all of the meter numbers they have for the 10 properties in my block are wrong as they only have 5 digits on record when the meter numbers are actually 6 digits long!
The account has been frozen and no payment is required apparently as it can take months for an engineer to come out!
Gallifrey - you've done absolutely the right thing to pursue it. Years ago in my flat- renting days (there were several flats in the one building) I had huge bills, queried them, was told it was absolutely right. However, I took regular meter readings, especially for periods when I was away with work or on holiday and I subsequently involved the Gas Consumer Council: it was found that the meters had been wrongly allocated to each flat and I had been sent the bills for a bigger flat occupied by several tenants.Obviously, the previous tenants had been totally unaware they were paying far in excess of what they should have been, for over 3 years.0 -

Some posters do seem to feel the need to be rude when others ask for help or support, however, there is of course absolutely no obligation placed on you personally to post a reply to anyone's questions if you feel that what is being asked is something the poster should have found out for themselves.0 -

Gedi - You have used the energy, and they have offered you a siginificant discount and twice as long to pay it off as it took to build up.
Get yourself on DD or online so that you cut down how much you pay from now on.
Why would you ask for more off? Did you call in December and ask for a bill, but they couldn't send one? Are you out of pocket because of this?0 -
