Hi Guys,
Sorry been away from the site a while...and as usual need your help again.
1. Brother has bought a house 'to let' out to students.... what does he need to do about building insurance? any specific things he needs to do?
2. Need building insurance for my house and my parents..... where to start.
Both needed to be done as of yesterday.
All help gratefully received and appreciated
Thanks to everyone in advance.

Hi -
1) - nothing particular, just needs normal buildings only insurance, unless he's letting it furnished
2) - how about moneysupermarket.com or https://www.home-cover.com ?
HTH!if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.0 -

I know nothing about anything, but if he is a landlord, he needs to declare that to the insurers. And there will be restrictions on his cover. Which will vary from company to company. The thread I've pointed you to may help him find a professional to work through the minefield initially.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Anyone had any experience of Homecover for insurance and claims?. Their quotes look reasonable but don't know the company.0

I'm insured with them, but havent claimed (touch wood!), so dont know about that part, but they are FSA regulated etc and the insurance is through a big firm (but forget which one!). Fantastic price though...!if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.0

Also Spikey, in our local paper there is a weekly column about residential lettings. I know it is a plug for the Residential Landlords Association, who presumably charge people to join them, but yesterday's article mentioned that there were lots of bits of legislation which landlords could be affected by - can't remember if it was 60+ or 80+. Obviously they cover areas like safety - fire escapes (horrific case again in local paper recently where fire escape staircase basically fell off wall with tenant on it), annual gas and electric checks etc - but also some less obvious areas which are less likely to crop up.
While I'm sure you want to be supportive of your brother, these things are ultimately going to be his responsibility! So he needs to get clued up!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
home cover just quoted me nearly £500 for building insurance on £175,000 rebuild cost.... that cant be right?
