How to put video camcorder onto DVD?

Is this even possible?

I have a Panasonic NV GS4 camcorder and have loads of footage of my daughter that I want to put onto DVD. If not how can I put it onto a video?

I have lost all the leads so will have to start from scratch!

Thank you

You need to find out how it connects to a PC. If you can connect it to a PC with a DVD writer, you can import the footage onto that then use Windows Movie Maker to create a DVD.

I'd love to help further but gave up the will to live trying to find out the specs of the camcorder after 10 pages of battery shops.

Hi mum-to-izzy. I've looked at the user manual for your camera on the Panasonic website. There are two ways you can record on to DVD. One will have better results than the other.

The first way is to record using the AV input of a standalone DVD recorder. As you have lost the leads then you will have to purchase a replacement. This called the "K2KC4CB00002 AV CABLE"

and is available from the Panasonic shop here:-

If you choose this method you could get a slightly better video quality by purchasing an additional s-video lead and using that instead of the yellow phono connection AV cable.

Alternatively if you have a pc with a dvd burner you can use this. This will give better results as you dont have to convert from digital to analogue then back to digital again. The pc will have to have a firewire port though. This is also known as an IEEE1394 port. If it doesn't it's possible to fit a card on your pc. Does your pc have a socket like this on it?

Once it's installed on your pc then it's just a case of purchasing a four to six pin dv cable and connecting your camcorder to you pc. As has been said already you can simply use Windows Movie Maker to export the video to your pc and then burn the file on your dvd player.

I don't think that Windows Movie Maker has native support for DVD Video.

You can use the trial version of Nero 8 to create DVD Video from your footage.

Don't install the Ask Toolbar and only install it when you are ready to use it.
