Where is the best place to open a Savings account with £2,000-£3,000 ??

This is following on from my post on this thread about my having over £35,000 in accounts with the same building society.

I want to transfer between £2,000 and £3,000 to another bank so that I don't have more than £35K with the Halifax. I'm not interested in ISAs, just want a good, high interest savings account, preferably one which I can manage online.

Had a quick scour on the moneysupermarket site and like the look of the Alliance & Leicester eSaver offering 6.50%. Any good or bad tales about them please?

Thank you in advance for any advice given.

Thank you. I did see Kaupthing but having never heard of them was a bit wary to give them my money .......
